Solar Alone Doesn’t Pay Like It Used To
Under NEM 3.0, SCE, PGE, and SDGE pay you a fraction of what they used to for the solar power you send back to the grid — then charge you peak rates in the evening when your panels have stopped producing. A Tesla Powerwall 3 flips that math: it stores your own daytime solar so you use it at night instead of buying it back at retail rates.
And when the grid goes down — wind events, PSPS shutoffs, the usual SoCal summer strain — your lights, fridge, and Wi-Fi stay on automatically. No generator, no gas, no noise.
What Makes the Powerwall 3 Different
The Powerwall 3 has a built-in solar inverter. That means fewer components on your wall, a cleaner installation, and a single integrated system instead of a battery bolted to a separate inverter.
- 13.5 kWh of usable storage per unit — enough to carry most homes through the evening peak or a typical outage
- 11.5 kW of continuous output — strong enough to start large loads like AC and well pumps
- Stackable — add more units as your needs grow, or for a full whole-home backup
- Whole-home or essentials backup — we configure it to match how you actually live
Why Homeowners Choose AWS Solar
A battery install is electrical work — high-voltage, permitted, tied into your main panel. It matters who does it.
- 18 years, same name, same owners. A lot of “solar companies” in LA are last year’s startups with new logos. We’ve been with AWS Solar since 2007.
- Licensed C-10 electricians, in-house. We don’t hand your job to a subcontracted crew we’ve never met. Our people do the work.
- We run Powerwalls in our own homes. We sell what we live with — so the sizing advice you get is what we’d do for ourselves.
- Honest sizing. We’ll tell you straight whether one Powerwall covers you, you need two, or you don’t need us at all yet.
What the Process Looks Like
- Free assessment — in-home or virtual. We review your panel, usage, and backup goals.
- Custom design and honest sizing — sized to your home, not a one-size quote.
- We handle the paperwork — all permits and SCE/LADWP interconnection, start to finish.
- Professional installation — our own in-house C-10 crew, clean and to code.
- Activation and walkthrough — we set you up in the Tesla app and show you how it works.
What Does It Cost?
Every home is different, so we don’t post a fake “starting at” number to bait a click. Your price depends on a few real things: how many Powerwalls you need, whether your electrical panel needs an upgrade, and how much of the house you want backed up.
What we will tell you: we offer financing, we don’t play pricing games, and the assessment that gives you a real number is free. You’ll get an honest quote you can actually compare.
Tesla Powerwall 3 — Common Questions
Do I need solar to install a Powerwall 3? No. The Powerwall 3 works as a battery-only backup, charging from the grid. Pairing it with solar gets you the most savings, but it’s not required.
Will a Powerwall 3 run my whole house? It depends on your loads. One unit covers essentials for most homes; larger homes or full whole-home backup may need two or more. We size it during the free assessment and tell you exactly what to expect.
How does adding a battery affect my NEM status? This is where it gets case-by-case. If you’re on NEM 2.0, we make sure an add-on doesn’t put your grandfathered status at risk. If you’re on NEM 3.0, a battery is what makes the economics work. We walk you through your specific situation before you commit to anything.
Can a Powerwall 3 work with my existing solar? Yes. We integrate Powerwall 3 with most existing systems, including SolarEdge and Enphase setups.
How long does installation take? Most residential installs are completed in one day once permits and interconnection are approved. The timeline before that depends on your utility and city.
Do you handle the permits and utility paperwork? Yes — all of it. Permitting and SCE/LADWP interconnection are included. You don’t chase anything.
Are you actually licensed? Yes. AWS Solar is a licensed C-10 electrical and solar contractor, license #901196, in business since 2007.
